At Music City Fencing Club, we offer a variety of group classes designed to teach the mechanics of fencing in a fun group setting while giving students a physical and mental exercise. Fencing is perfect for virtually any age group, and helps maintain a healthy body, it promotes self-confidence, develops good sportsmanship, instills self-discipline, and can even help greatly with college admissions. New fencers will need to attend at least one orientation lesson before attending group classes (new fencer orientations are typically scheduled on Fridays between 5-6pm). Note: All participants are required to obtain a membership with 'USA Fencing'. For more info about memberships, please CLICK HERE.
LEVEL I CLASS (Intro/novice)
Our Level I Class teaches students, ages 10 to adult, the fundamentals of fencing. Participants will learn a brief history of the sport, basic rules, safety practices, as well as introductory footwork and bladework. Students will also have the opportunity to suit up with electronic scoring gear and fence each other. Fencers can typically advance to Level II after 2-3 months of attending regular classes; advancement is based on recommendations made by our coaches.
All equipment is included. If you would like to register for our Level I Class, please complete the registration form at the top of the page. New fencers are required to attend at least one orientation lesson prior to attending their first group class.
LEVEL II (Intermediate)
Our Level II Class continues to build the fencing knowledge of our students ages 12 and up. This class is the next step for fencers who would like to increase their knowledge of the sport, typically to prepare for competition. It provides students with a deeper understanding of the skills they learned in Level I, and introduces more complex actions.
Students are required to purchase some basic equipment. If you would like to register for a Level II Class, please complete the registration form at the top of the page.
LEVEL III (ADVANCED)
Our Level III Class is designed for advanced fencers who are training to compete at the Regional and National levels. This class focuses on developing athletes into highly competitive fencers by teaching advanced techniques and providing additional depth to their training regimen. Speed, strength and agility training are also heavily incorporated into classes in order to bring athletes to peak performance in their physical game. This is the longest of our group classes, running for 90 minutes. Fencers must be invited to attend this class by one of our coaches.
JR. Fencers CLASS (ages 6-9)
Our Jr. Fencers Class is a great way to introduce young kids, ages 6-9 years old, to the sport of fencing! It teaches them the fundamental fencing movements and allows them to train with other children their age in a fun environment. Children in this age group can begin competing, and we encourage them to start early.
If you would like to register for a Jr. Fencers Class, please complete the registration form at the top of the page. New fencers are required to to attend at least one orientation lesson prior to attending their first group class.
